Bad News about Harlequin Ducks

Just and hour ago, I received news that a harlequin duck has been shot in Salt Lake City, Utah. This is a tragedy inamong itself but the worst part was that the hunters who killed it found out about itfrom a birding listserv. Essentially the hunters had been following the listserv specifically to find rare ducks to shoot. Then, when the harlequin duck turned up in Utah, they went outand shot it. This is a terrible act. To make matters worse, the duck was being studied by amateur ornithologists. So this crime not only took the life of a bird, it also prevented scientific research and prevented many many people from enjoying seeing such a beautiful bird. For more info go to
